Neighborhood Of The Week: Silver Creek In The Lake Asbury Area, Green Cove Springs, Florida

Silver creek is located in the Lake Asbury area of Green Cove Springs Close to Middleburg, Orange Park and Fleming Island. Not far from Route 17, which is a straight shot to NAS Jax. (Check out the map below)

With the warm temperatures in Florida, the community pool is perfect to cool down, take a swim or just hang out with friends and family. Next to the pool is a play set, so the young-ins can get some energy out.

Plenty of sidewalks to walk the family pet, exercise and enjoy the outdoors. Across the street from Ronnie Van Zant Park, where you can go fishing at the pond in the back, play tennis, basketball, volleyball, Frisbee golf and more. Trails throughout the park, makes for a nice bike ride or stroll through nature.

Walking distance to Lake Asbury Elementary and Lake Asbury Jr High, bus pick up in the neighborhood for Clay High School located on Route 16.

 

 The Silver Creek Home Owner's association fees are currently $475 per year. No CDD (Community District Develo

Ronnie Van Zant Park in Lake Asbury, Green Cove Springs Florida: A Great Place To Play!

Located in Green Cove Springs, in the Lake Asbury area. (Check out the map below) This fun park is within a mile, mile and a half from the neighborhoods listed below the slideshow. Jump on your bike, walk or jump in the car for some fun in the sun. 

Wanna shoot some hoops? You're covered! Tennis anyone? Yep, you guessed it, tennis courts await you. Beach volleyball, without the beach, but with plenty of sand. There's a baseball field and empty fields to fly a kite, launch a rocket. Not a big rocket, we're not sending anyone into space from here. :)

Clay County Pal football practices at the park too, which makes it convenient for the folks who live nearby. My daughter's 3v3 team has practiced at the park as well. Lots of room, plenty of space.

 

 

 

 

  New to the park is Frisbee golf. One day, I saw a bunch of men pushing what look like strollers, so I thought, how sweet, the guys are taking their kiddos to the park. It was actually guys playing Frisbee golf.  The strollers were actually  their carts carrying their Frisbees. :)

 

 Can't forget the slides and swings! Huge playset for the kids to swing, slide, hang and jump from!  Nestled in the trees for some shade, with plenty of benches and a couple of pavilions close by, complete with grills. We have had a few birthday parties here along with an after season BBQ forour U10 soccer team.

                                                                                                                                   

 

 

Head towards the back of the park, where you will encounter a beautiful pond! If you have a fishing license and a kid, you can go fishing there. Just make sure, the kid is one you know and you're not just randomly grabbing just any child just to go fishing there. :)

The pond is a great place to bring a lunch and a book and chill while the kids are at school. Multiple pavilions to sit down under some shade and chill.

How Long Do I Have To Put Up With Construction on Henley Road in Lake Asbury Green Cove Springs, Florida???

 Construction started in December 2011, so right now, we are three months into it. I have to admit, orange is NOT my favorite color at all, so I'm already tired of seeing the orange cones. :)

The contract for this project is for two years, but the construction company is really pushing for a year and 6 months. I'm pushing for that too!

If you're curious or you're just nosy like I am, and want to know what they are doing, the Clay County Florida Gov't website has a drawing of the plans.

 

 

 

 

 

There have been changes made. Instead of a median as you will see in the drawings, there will be an open center lane. Also some of the pond locations have changed. If you want more info, you can contact Sean Thomas at 904-541-3815

The speed limit has dropped down to 35 mph. I know, that sucks! :) I have seen some motorcycle officers with radar multiple times. Tickets in constructions zones are alot more expensive (I might speak from experience), so slow down and save yourself a few dollars. More importantly, slow down to save a life of one of the workers. They have a tough job working in the heat all day long, plus they are so close to the road, that a speeding or reckless driver could cause them some injuries or death. Let's look after these guys and gals, who are making our future commute much better!

 

Lake Asbury, Green Cove Springs, Florida

Lake Asbury offers multiple lifestyles, which is different than most cookie cutter neighborhoods. If you're looking for waterfront homes, there are 3 lakes, with about 430 properties. One lake (Lake Ryan) is for paddle boats and canoes, the other two lakes, (Lake Asbury & South Lake) you can enjoy boats and jet skis. Only the lake owners have access to the boat ramps on these two lakes.

 There are also properties zoned for horses for the equestrian folks. What all the lots have in common are some elbow room. Some properties start at 1/4 acre, but those are rare, the majority are 1 acre or more, some even at 5 acres and up.

 

 

 

 

Inside the Lake Asbury neighborhood is the local fire dept, that's gotta make you feel a little better, knowing those guys and gals are close by. There's also a small playground and community center right next to the fire department.

 The lake owners are members of the Lake Asbury Lake Lot Owners Association (LALLOA) and the Lake Asbury Municipal Service Benefit District. (LAMSBD). The function of the LAMSBD is to preserve the quality of the lakes and LALLOA would retain all authority as to lake usage and title to the lots that posses the boat ramp access to the lakes.

 

 

 

 

Lake Asbury is located in a quiet community, a little ways from the hustle and bustle, but still close to shopping, churches, boat ramps, walking distance to two schools (see below for school info), about 35 mins from NAS Jax. Taking the scenic route to St Augustine, you can be there in about 40-45 mins, even though mapquest says about an hour. No, I don't have the pedal to the medal either. :)

What do you scream, I scream, we all scream for? You got it, Ice cream! I know, that was corny. :) Anyway, I wanted to just put the spot light out there on my favorite ice cream shop, Just Chillin', which is a mom and pops kind of place, and I love those types of businesses. Yes it's December, but we're in Florida and we can enjoy ice cream all year round! Here's a little of what they have:

• THE BEST Hot Chocolate in Green Cove Springs (I mention that first since it is December)
• Ice Cream (I know, duh)
• Smoothies
• Sundaes
• Milkshakes
• Hot Chocolate Floats (I REALLY love their hot chocolate)

The owner, Jennifer, makes the visit even better, just by her warm personality and the fact that she actually remembers what we order, although I do like to change it up to keep her on her toes. They offer gift certificates too, nice stocking stuffers since Christmas isn't that far away.

Does your organization need to raise some money? Just Chillin' offers fundraiser opportunities to the schools, athletic organizations and more. I bet those other ice cream chains, don't offer fundraiser opportunities to the community.
