Jacksonville Real Estate Ramblings: The workout that kicked my butt!!!!

The workout that kicked my butt!!!!

For years, I've done the Body for Life program. I think it's a great program, but I realized I was totally bored with it and no longer looked forward to the workouts. I still like the nutritional side of it and will continue to use that portion. I decided to try something different.

I picked up a copy of Jillian Michaels book "Winning by losing". I just started the workouts on Monday. The workouts sprinkle weight training, calisthenics and cardio in one. I actually did jumping jacks and I jumped rope too! The She makes jump rope seem easy and fun to do!workout was down right hard! I love watching the biggest loser every Tuesday. I see them working out and looking like they are dying, which I figure is because all they do there is workout. Well I found out why they look like they're dying...

By the time I finished my workout yesterday, which took 42 minutes, I could barely walk! I LOVED IT! I loved doing the jumping jacks, even though I realized my sports bra was having a difficult time keeping things in, the jump rope kept hitting me in the head and I couldn't even jump up enough to clear the rope. Thank goodness I workout at home or I would have been the comic relief for many.

Wow! I can't wait to do it again tomorrow!

That's hilarious! I tried portions of her workout and enjoyed her book. I would much prefer a workout by dvd than by book... that's why I gave up on that program! She is a great trainer isn't she? Yikes. Good luck tomorrow!

Pam -- good for you for making a change in your workout.  Being sore means you really worked it!
Posted by Aziz Abdur-Raoof,Howard Co. Real Estate Scoop (RE/MAX Rewards) about 4 years ago

Lindsey-I like her program and her no bull attitude. I think she's a great trainer, she cares for her people so she's soft when she needs to be and in their face when she needs to be too.

Aziz-Oh, I am very sore. It's what I needed to make a change.

Hi Pam,

Sounds like a great workout! I love watching her on the Biggest Loser, she just cracks me up! :)

Posted by Somerset MA Real Estate ~ Suzanne Sands (Pavao Real Estate) about 4 years ago
Pam - She does have a good combo of strength and pity. Can you still walk? I think that it's funny how she walks all over her contestants on Biggest Loser.
Posted by Lindsey Hasford (Coldwell Banker Vision) about 4 years ago

Suzanne-She is funny and seems to be really caring.

Lindsey-I walk like I have a corn cob stuck up my _______ (fill in the blank) I haven't been this sore in a long time. Today I was back in my garage dying this morning. I had to work through the soreness but actually saw a small improvement in my jump rope skills. My body doesn't know what to think. :)

Pam - Isn't that the key of it all? Working through the pain. Ugh. Sometimes it's sooooooooooooo hard but needs to be done! That's how we progress. Way to go!
Posted by Lindsey Hasford (Coldwell Banker Vision) about 4 years ago
Lindsey- I guess it hurts so good! Today, I didn't have it in me to complete the entire workout. I need to get some sleep, but that is a neverending problem for me. :(
Posted by Pam Graham- Jacksonville Florida Real Estate (All Real Estate Options) about 4 years ago
Pam - I hear you on the sleep! My 2yr old was up for three hours last night! Ugh. Some days....
Posted by Lindsey Hasford (Coldwell Banker Vision) about 4 years ago
Lindsey-It seems that kids and lack of sleep go hand in hand!

We all need a change in routine sometimes to motivate us.  Good luck with the new work-outs!

Tanya-It's a great book. Her workout is very similar to the workout on the biggest loser...circuit training.

I love it when you feel the pain of a workout the next day, you know you've worked new muscle groups.

Cindy-I love the pain too but if it last more than a few days, I'm whining! :)

Sore is good, I moved our office this week and beleive me I am so sore I cannot move.  I see that doing and moving in ways you dont normally do really works muscles you dont normally use.  My point...sore is good!  Keep up the good work.

Posted by JANNA HELMICK (ALLEGIANCE REALTY) almost 4 years ago

Janna-That could be the start of a new workout program, moving offices every week...NOT! :)

Sarah-It is fun. I don't run, way too scary if I did! :) I'll let you borrow my jump rope! :)

Pam. the first time I tried the elliptical at the gym, I lasted all of 2 minutes.  It will kick you, that's for sure.  I went to 45 minutes fairly quickly and can burn off a ton of calories in that time period.  The other day I started on the elliptical the same time as a young gal about 16 or 17 years my junior did.  I don't know how it happened, but suddenly I realized that she was not going to let this"older" woman outlast her.  LOL.  She kept looking over to see how fast I was going and would speed up to "catch up".  Needless to say, I would have stayed on that dang thing until they had to call rescue to detach me from the machine. Luckily they didn't have to.

Back to basics.  Jump roping used to be my thing in elementary school.

Posted by Angelia Garcia (Pure Realtors) over 3 years ago

Angelia-I have to be honest, I never took to the jump rope. I know why but can't say why on Active rain! :)

Pam,

That sounds like a great program. I would like to tell you about a couple more you may want to check out. They are cross fit & P90X....It is always nice to switch things up every once in a while.

Mike-I will go check them out. Thanks!

Mindy-Consistency is key, something I'm consistently missing. :)

I think it's good to change your exercise routine regularly, so that you work different muscle groups.  I jazzercise, which I love because it's current music (some "flashbacks" mixed in, too) that you really hear on the radio.  I do not like the techno-dance, monotone beat I would hear in fitness club aerobics classes.  Good music makes much easier workouts.  I get a head-to-toe workout.

Even still, when I get out and do something different, no matter how many different muscle groups I've rotated, I get sore.  Change is good.

Hey Angie- Mix it up and do what you like makes a huge difference! Santa is bringing us a Wii with the Wii fit and biggest loser so I can change up my routine a little. Santa is so intuitive!!! :)

Cars and houses are quite expensive and not everybody can buy it. But, loans are created to support people in such situations.
